MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates its 2026 grain yield to be roughly 140 million tonnes as farmers enter the final phase of the harvest. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev noted that farmers had already gathered more than 126 million tonnes of grain, with approximately 90% of the cultivated area threshed by October 2. The government also predicts the country will produce around 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

These latest figures show an increase from early September, when Russia’s grain harvest was at 113.5 million tonnes. Oilseed collection has now reached nearly 15 million tonnes. Farmers operating within organized sectors have also harvested close to 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a similar quantity of vegetables. Officials reported that yields in most crop categories are exceeding their 2025 levels, as field work continues across key producing regions.
The Ministry of Economic Development in Russia has issued a slightly higher forecast of approximately 141.8 million tonnes for the 2026 grain crop. According to Rosstat, the 2025 harvest amounted to 141.2 million tonnes based on its territorial data. During an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut reported a total of 144.6 million tonnes for 2025, describing it as the third-largest grain harvest in the nation’s history. In 2024, Russia harvested nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.
Harvest efforts enter final phase
Patrushev emphasized that the current harvesting pace aligns with the government’s expectations for major crops. The government continues to support agricultural producers during this autumn season by allocating about 10 billion rubles to subsidize transportation from key grain-producing regions. Additionally, it has suspended grain export duty payments through the end of 2026 and capped export duties on vegetable oil and meal at August levels.
According to officials, winter planting has now exceeded the halfway mark of the planned area. They have urged regional authorities to closely monitor planting progress, especially concerning winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry previously indicated that farmers intended to sow over 19 million hectares with winter crops. Efforts are also underway to ensure farms remain supplied with machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other essential resources for seasonal work.
Recent grain harvests remain near historical highs
Russia’s recent grain yields have continued to be substantial by historical standards. The country produced approximately 143 million tonnes in 2023, and its 2022 harvest reached a record 157.676 million tonnes. The current forecast of 140 million tonnes is below these totals but still exceeds the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. The final 2026 figure has yet to be announced, as harvesting persists in several regions.
This year’s campaign also reflects the broader scope of Russia’s crop production. Along with grain, the government expects oilseed output to hit about 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers continue harvesting vegetables and potatoes as regions complete seasonal field work. Meanwhile, officials are advancing winter planting for the next cycle while farmers finalize the remaining 2026 harvest. The government has not issued a definitive grain total, but its current projection remains at 140 million tonnes.
